SAN DIEGO, Calif.  – The Reds put Homer Bailey on the disabled list Saturday after removing the struggling right-hander from the rotation earlier in the week.

Bailey has right knee inflammation and was placed on the 10-day DL retroactive to Tuesday, the club announced. Right-hander Austin Brice was reinstated from the 10-day DL.

After throwing a bullpen session Friday, Bailey had little comment when asked if his switch to the bullpen could get him back on track.

"Probably not, but that is what we are hoping for,'' Bailey said, according to reds.com.

The veteran is 1-7 in 12 starts with a 6.68 ERA - worst in the National League among qualified starters. He leads the National League in home runs allowed (15).

The Reds announced that INF/OF Rosell Herrera has been claimed by the Royals. The Reds had designated for assignment.
