CINCINNATI — Local breast cancer survivor Laura Fay will be the first woman to serve the role of Honorary Bat Girl during the bottom of the first inning at Thursday night’s Cincinnati Reds game.

Fay was selected by the Reds as part of the Honorary Bat Girl program — a Major League Baseball program introduced in 2009 to raise awareness and support the annual “Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer” initiative.

This year, each MLB club will honor a bat girl based on her connection to breast cancer and commitment to raising awareness.

Fay was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2017. Fay and her husband John, a Real Men Wear Pink candidate in 2016, have raised more than $37,000 in three years to raise awareness about the disease in the Tri-State community.

All of the honorees are raising funds for breast cancer research and cancer care. The highest fundraiser will earn a trip to the World Series. Click here to donate on Fay’s behalf.

The Cincinnati Reds play the Chicago Cubs Thursday at 6:40 p.m. Fay will also be honored by the Reds prior to the game.
