CINCINNATI — Food prices increased 0.3% last month according to the latest Consumer Price Index report, but there are still ways to save on your grocery bill, especially if you're planning a Father's Day cookout.

The CPI report showed eggs were down 7.5% for the month, while uncooked ground beef prices are up almost 10% compared to a year ago.

Grocery bills add up quickly in the Tri-State area, so I'm continuing my weekly mission to find where your money goes furthest across local stores.

I check prices at Walmart, Kroger, Aldi and Meijer each week to compare costs on five staple items families use most.

  • One gallon of 2% milk
  • A dozen eggs
  • A loaf of whole wheat bread
  • Boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • Ground beef
