More sleet than snow in early hours of Monday's winter storm

The Tri-State was ready for heavy snow Monday afternoon, but going on 6 p.m., the majority of the region has seen sleet.

It turns out, there's an explanation for that.

The bottom line as an explanation of things, and we can see it on radar, there is a little nose of this warmer air that stuck around in the Ohio River valley. That meant some of the snowfall expected turned to sleet as it fell onto parts of the region.

As the system continues to develop through the region, expect more snowfall to hit as the winter weather system circulates around the Tri-State and atmospheric temperatures continue to drop.
