CINCINNATI — The number of fans allowed for the 8 p.m. American Athletic Conference Football Championship game between the University of Cincinnati and Tulsa on Saturday, Dec. 19 will be limited to 5,831 fans, UC released in a statement on their website Tuesday evening.

That's 17.9% of the stadium's 33,000 capacity.

News of the increased capacity at Nippert Stadium comes one day after the university's variance request was denied, capping the number of fans at 1,500, but the request was reconsidered by Ohio legislators on Tuesday.

"We truly appreciate Governor DeWine for reviewing our variance for the AAC Championship Game," University of Cincinnati director of athletics John Cunningham said. "Thanks to President Pinto and the many leaders from the University and City of Cincinnati who helped make this possible. I know it will mean a lot to Coach Fickell and our team to have a great crowd of Bearcats in the stands Saturday night. We are excited to be able to welcome some of our great fans back into Nippert Stadium to see this 2020 team in person."

Tickets for the game go on sale to season ticket holders at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
