VILLA HILLS, Ky. — Shelly Espich sometimes feels like she’s on a road to nowhere, she said Wednesday night. Her daily commute from Northern Kentucky to downtown Cincinnati becomes more tangled by the day.

“If there's a wreck on 275 or they're doing construction like they are it becomes nightmarish,” she said.

It’s not just the roads she drives, she added. It’s the ones she can’t.

Portions of Minneola Pike, Amsterdam Road and Sleepy Hollow Road, among others, are closed indefinitely. Some of the work-arounds — signs, temporary traffic lights, barrel-shaped traffic cones — create traffic hazards of their own.

Representatives of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said the agency is aware of the problem and is trying to come up with the best repair plan but can't provide estimates of when these roads might reopen.
