AURORA, Ind. — A Dearborn County community is mourning after a couple was killed Friday evening in a head-on crash.
Jordan Walters, 33, and his wife, 33-year-old Sierra Walters, were killed in a two-vehicle crash around 6 p.m. Friday in the 8600 block of SR-350.
Indiana State Police said that a 46-year-old man was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 westbound on SR-350 when, for an unknown reason, he drove over the center line into the path of Jordan Walters' 2017 GMC Terrain. Both drivers crashed their vehicles head-on in the eastbound lanes of SR-350, and the Ford F-150 spun around, coming to a rest in the middle of the road, while Walters' GMC left the side of the road and came to a rest in an embankment.
Both Jordan and Sierra Walters were fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. The Walters' two small children, who were passengers in the back seat of their vehicle, were injured and transported to area hospitals.
Troopers said the 46-year-old driver in the Ford F-150 was also seriously injured in the crash and was transported to a hospital in Cincinnati for treatment.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and troopers said toxicology tests are pending. SR-350 was also closed for nearly four hours after the crash Friday evening.
The Walters couple is being remembered as more than just great parents to their own two boys. Sierra Walters provided childcare to local families, and Jordan Walters was a coach with Milan Summer Baseball, a youth baseball league that their boys were a part of, according to those close to the family.
The Milan Summer Baseball team played Saturday evening, and parents from the team told us the players tied the game up 4-4 on Saturday — a sign for their injured teammate who wears the No. 44 jersey, the parents said.
Multiple community members in the Milan area are coming together to support the Walters family after the crash. Several GoFundMe fundraisers have been organized to support the Walters family, medical expenses for the boys and more.
Those wanting to donate can also donate directly through the Jordan and Sierra Walters Family Benefit Account at Napoleon State Bank. One of the GoFundMe campaigns, organized by Nicole Schuler, has raised more than $30,000 since it was created.
