CLEVES, Ohio — Investigators have determined that a reported abduction and rape on North Miami Avenue did not happen, according to the Village of Cleves Police Department.

Police said in a news release that the assault “did not occur.”

According to police, a 14-year-old girl described being dragged off the street and raped Saturday evening while walking on the sidewalk.

The reported crime left neighbors shocked and worried when WCPO spoke with residents earlier this week.

“I would’ve never thought about it in the first place, but now, yes, it does concern me,” said Bob Patton, who lives on North Miami Avenue with his teenage kids.

Police did not release any other circumstances surrounding the false report. The department thanked the community and assisting agencies in a statement:

“We thank the community, Three Rivers Local School District, Cincinnati Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cheviot Police Department for their assistance in this matter.”
