CINCINNATI — Finding the best grocery deals can help you save money on your weekly shopping trips. At WCPO, I'm tracking prices of essential grocery items at four major Tri-State stores to help you find the biggest savings.

I'm monitoring prices at Walmart, Kroger, Aldi and Meijer every week, focusing on five essential products that most households regularly purchase:

  • One gallon of 2% milk
  • A dozen eggs
  • A loaf of whole wheat bread
  • Boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • Ground beef

This week's biggest savings:

Milk

For a gallon of 2% milk, Walmart offers the lowest price at $2.42.

Bread

If you're shopping for whole wheat bread, head to Aldi where a loaf costs just $1.55.

Chicken breast

Aldi also leads on chicken breast prices at $1.75 per pound.

Ground beef

Looking for ground beef? Meijer's store brand is this week's best buy at $3.79 per pound.

Eggs

To round out your essentials, a sale makes Kroger's price for a dozen eggs the cheapest at $2.99.

Weekly deals you won't want to miss

I've also scouted the best weekly specials across all four stores.

At Meijer, sweet corn is 5 for $1, and specialty cheeses are buy one, get one 40% off.

At Kroger, with a Kroger Plus Card, you can grab General Mills giant-sized cereals at 3 for $10, and avocados for 77 cents each.

Aldi has slashed prices on fresh fruit — blackberries are now $1.69 per 6-ounce package, and mangoes are 69 cents each.

Several rollbacks this week at Walmart include 12-packs of soda down from $7.92 to just $5.

With Memorial Day coming up, if you want to stock up on condiments, a large bottle of French's mustard is now $1.97, while the large Heinz ketchup has dropped from $4.76 to $3.97.
