CINCINNATI -- The Tampa Rowdies' Thursday night victory over Orlando City B clinched FC Cincinnati's spot in the United Soccer League playoffs for the second consecutive year of the team's existence.
It's likely a welcome bit of good news for the Orange and Blue, who were blanked Sunday night by Ottawa Fury FC and face an uphill struggle to secure a stadium deal in a city financially fatigued by past stadium purchases.
It's good news for Cincinnati soccer fans, too -- the United States men's national soccer team fell 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago Tuesday night, losing a World Cup spot in what statisticians on Five Thirty Eight called "the worst loss in the history of U.S. men's soccer." In the wake of that disappointment, the prospect of watching FC Cincinnati in the playoffs might make the soccer horizon ahead a little brighter.
