CINCINNATI — Amazon has opened a new fulfillment center in Monroe and is looking for hundreds more employees. The building first opened on June 30.

The new facility handles shipment of large objects like home decor, sporting equipment and gardening tools. It functions similarly to a warehouse.

The new fulfillment center sits on more than a million square feet. Full-time employees will be paid a starting pay of $15 an hour, as well as getting full employee benefits.

Two years ago, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority allowed a 1.39 percent, 10-year tax credit for the Amazon facility. It's expected to draw in more than $26.7 million in new payroll and be a $30 million fixed-asset investment.

The Monroe industrial park where the Amazon fulfillment center is now has had multiple big names compete for the space in the past. The citizens of Monroe said they are pleased with Amazon occupying the space and look forward to the job opportunities they expect to come with it.

The new facility is off the Ohio 63 near I-75 and the Cincinnati Premium Outlet Mall.
