COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio set a record last month for most new business filings in a single month.

Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose said 13,747 new entities filed to do business in the state in March. That was 848 more than the previous record, set in April 2018.

LaRose credited a business environment conducive to entrepreneurship for generating the boost.

New business filings declare the formation of a for-profit, nonprofit or professional corporation, a limited liability company, a partnership, a limited partnership or a limited liability partnership. Filing as a business doesn't guarantee a company will open, be profitable or create jobs.

The three next-highest totals after last April occurred in March 2017, January 2019 and May 2018.
