Man from '1 PEPSI' highway signs found dead

CINCINNATI -- An elderly man from northeast Ohio has been found dead more than a week after he was reported missing.

John Mathes, 91, hadn't been seen at his home in Wintersville, near Pittsburgh, since Nov. 3. Investigators said Mathes had dementia and hadn’t been taking his medication.

Highway signs across the state alerted drivers to look for Mathes, who was thought to be in a gray Buick Lucerne with the Ohio license plate “1 PEPSI.”

Mathes' body was found Monday afternoon inside the car on a remote road in Harrison County, about 25 miles west of Wintersville, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported.

Foul play is not suspected, the sheriff's office said.

The Stark County coroner will perform Mathes' autopsy.
