BARABOO, Wis. — Wisconsin school officials are launching an investigation after a photo of a large group of male students from Baraboo School District holding up what appears to be a Nazi salute surfaced online.

The social media post went out around 9 p.m. on Twitter and has since has been deleted reported Channel 3000.

The photo depicts a large group of white, male students posing on the front steps of a building, seemingly before a school dance. The caption reads "#barabooproud."

The school district sent out a letter to parents Monday morning stating that an investigation has began to address the gesture made in the photo.

Baraboo Superintendent Lori Mueller also clarified that the photo was not taken on school property or at a school-sponsored event and was originally taken last spring.

Mueller said that if the gesture is in fact what it appears to be, the district will pursue any and all available and appropriate actions, including legal.
