Broward Schools plan to tear down the building where a school shooting happened this week, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

A gunman killed 17 people and wounded dozens at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Tuesday. The shooting occurred in the three-story freshman building, which holds 900 students, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

"Parents and students have resoundingly told me they can’t go back into that building regardless of what we do," Superintendent Robert Runcie told the newspaper. "The other piece I heard is that that building will be used as evidence in any type of legal process that goes forward, so we won’t be able to access the building for a while anyway."

Authorities have charged Nikolas Cruz, 19, with 17 counts of murder. He had been expelled from the school last year for disciplinary reasons.
