As Hurricane Dorian has its sights set on the Carolinas, the stubborn cyclone has reintensified into a major hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.

At the 11 p.m. ET Wednesday advisory, Dorian has top winds of 115 MPH, making it a category 3 storm.

The hurricane is off the Georgia coast, and will make a close approach to the South Carolina coast on Thursday. The hurricane was 105 miles south of Charleston, S.C. as of 11 p.m.

The hurricane remains over warm ocean water and in a favorable environment for powerful hurricanes.

Although Dorian's top winds are lower than when the hurricane struck The Bahamas, Dorian is a broader storm. Hurricane-force winds now extend 60 miles, and tropical storm-force winds extend 195 miles from the center.
