BOONE COUNTY, Ky. — After searching for more than 24 hours, the Boone County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of missing 9-year-old Jenny Dim on Saturday.

Officials and volunteers began the search for the missing girl in the Florence area Friday night. Dim was last seen walking on Macintosh Lane around 5 p.m. Friday before an IAN alert was issued by Kentucky State Police just after 9 p.m.

Crews searched throughout Friday night into Saturday morning before the search was suspended at 5 a.m. The search restarted Saturday afternoon with thousands of volunteers coming out to assist authorities. The sheriff's office said more than 20 different agencies were working together to locate Dim.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff's office announced Dim's body was recovered from a pond near her home around 7:30 p.m.

Kentucky State Police also canceled the IAN alert, posting on social media saying, "Tragically, this is not the outcome we had hoped for."

"The number of people, the volunteers, the professionals that came out, it really showed the sense of community and really showed the sense of care that the (Northern Kentucky) area and even Hamilton County, Cincinnati that offered their resources today, that show up for a complete stranger," Lt. Anthony Theetge with the sheriff's office said.

Theetge said Saturday evening wasn't the first time crews searched the pond, but that water rescue can be very difficult, and the pond is 20 feet deep in some areas.

The sheriff's office said it will continue to investigate Dim's death.
