COVINGTON, Ky. – Travelers at CVG experienced lines that were double or triple the norm due to bad weather Wednesday morning.

Wait times were estimated at as much as 75 minutes for passengers in line for security checkpoints. Also, there were dozens of cancelations and delays for both departures and arrivals, which airport and TSA representatives were due to bad weather elsewhere, especially in Chicago.

"We're dealing with heavy volume everywhere and cleaning up with cancelations and delays," TSA regional spokesperson Mark Howell said.

The bad weather, combined with holiday travel, led to longer delay times over the past two days, according to CVG spokesperson Bobby Spann. That led to more traffic being diverted to CVG Wednesday morning, he said.

By noon, wait times were back down to less than a half-hour.

To help get through security faster, Howell recommended travellers check the TSA’s website, which has information on what items are prohibited.

Current security wait times are also posted on CVG’s website. Spann said the airport recommends passengers arrive two hours early.
