WOODLAWN, Ohio -- A 26-year-old Cincinnati man hit and killed a woman as she crossed Springfield Pike in Woodlawn on Monday night, according to law enforcement officials.

Desmond Layne was driving south near W. Fountain Avenue at about 6 p.m. when Denise Sanders, 38, crossed the road in an area without streetlights, Sheriff Jim Neil and Woodlawn Police Chief Jeff Witte said.

The Woodlawn Fire Department took Sanders to Bethesda North Hospital, but she was pronounced dead.

Alcohol, drugs or speed aren't suspected in the crash, Neil and Witte said.

Sanders' death remains under investigation. Layne was wearing a seat belt.
