GREENHILLS, Ohio -- A babysitter who was hit by a pickup truck while pushing a stroller through a crosswalk Monday has died from her injuries, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Mary Ellen Smith, 66, was crossing with two children shortly before noon in the crosswalk at Winton Road and Ingram Road, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Martin Leach, 41, was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 and turning left from westbound Ingram to southbound Winton. Leach didn't see Smith; he struck her and the stroller as he made the turn.

Smith suffered serious injuries including head trauma, police said. She died at around 6:44 a.m. Tuesday at University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center.

The children, ages 4 and 17 months, were being treated at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to deputies.

The crash was still under investigation by the Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit. Deputies said speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
