SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A man died Thursday afternoon after his riding lawn mower tipped into a pond on McKelvey Road, trapping him underneath.
The victim’s name had not been released by 6 p.m. According to 911 calls made by another man performing yard work nearby, he was mowing along the steep incline from the road to the pond when the mower flipped.
The witness said he tried to rescue the victim, but could not move the mower.
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, 75 people die each year in lawn mowing accidents.
