MONTGOMERY, Ohio -- A local high school student died after being seriously injured in a one-car, rollover crash in Montgomery early Monday morning.

Matthew Clark, 18, died Monday afternoon at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to a letter to parents from St. Xavier High School Principal Terrence Tyrrell. Clark was a senior at the school and was about to graduate.

At about 4:50 a.m., a car driven by Clark crashed into a wooded area off Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway near Montgomery Road. An Aircare medical helicopter was called to the scene.

Hamilton County dispatchers said only one person was involved in the crash. The driver was trapped, dispatchers said.

Montgomery firefighters got Clark out of the vehicle. He sustained life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.

Monday was the last day before final exams for seniors at St. Xavier.

The school sent a note to families saying that they will offer support groups during the day Tuesday.

All ramps to and from Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway at the Montgomery Road exit were closed for several hours Monday morning; they reopened around 10 a.m.

If you or someone you know was affected by Clark's death, grief resources are available online.
