COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A man turned himself in to police Thursday afternoon after multiple reports he had attempted to lure children into a van that morning.
Steven Hartel, 35, faces five counts of criminal child enticement after police said he attempted to lure neighborhood children into the vehicle.
"He pursued it and kept pursuing it," police spokesman Jim Love said. "Highly suspicious all the way around."
According to Love, the children thought fast -- they called their parents to report the interaction and confirmed details with the police.
Hartel surrendered himself to authorities later that day.
"This is getting to be pretty scary," Colerain resident Kim Quigley said. "You can’t let your kids go out and do anything anymore without supervision. You can’t just even let them outside right near the house."
