The University of Cincinnati ordered students to shelter in place late Thursday night following an incident involving an armed person near the campus recreation center, according to text and email alerts shared by students.
The alerts went out around 11:33; the UC Public Safety tweeted the same warning minutes later.
According to Captain David Fink of the Cincinnati Police Department, a fistfight near the rec center escalated into gunfire. Officers found three shell casings on the ground nearby.
