CINCINNATI - Two people were seriously injured when a 2014 Honda Civic went off the road in heavy rain and hit a telephone pole in Corryville early Thursday morning, according to police.

The crash happened at 60 William Howard Taft Road about 2:30 a.m., according to a  news release.

The driver, 22-year-old Nazareth Gaim, was listed in critical condition at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A back-seat passenger, 19-year-old Henok Brhanu, was listed in serious condition. A front-seat passenger, 20-year-old Meron Daniel, was treated at the scene and released.

Brhanu was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Excessive speed and impairment appear to be factors in the crash, according to the release.

The Traffic Unit is investigating. Witnesses are asked to call 513-352-2514.
