Sheriff: Jury duty scam hits Hamilton County residents

CINCINNATI -- Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil warns of a common scam targeting county residents.

The scammer tells residents over the phone that they missed jury duty and that there’s an active warrant out for their arrest, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Neil said the scammer is pretending to be a representative from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and attempts to solicit money from victims.

Employees of the sheriff’s office will not contact anyone for money. A scammer in Butler County recently used the names of actual deputies in an attempt to dupe people out their money as well.

Anyone who believes they are a victim of the scam is asked to contact their local police department.
