CINCINNATI – When Carol Williams leaves the anchor desk Friday night, she takes with her more than 30 years of talent, experience, and knowledge of our community. But what she leaves will last for decades to come.

Carol has been a mentor to me and countless other journalists in the 9 On Your Side newsroom, as well as those who have moved on and work around the country.

Carol and Griffin Frank.

Carol's always positive attitude is contagious. Her passion for work is unmatched. The ever-lasting glow around her can be seen from miles away.

In the five years that I've worked for 9 On Your Side I have grown extremely close to Carol. She is always there to guide and develop my talents as a young journalist. It's truly surreal that a woman who I grew up watching every day is the same person who will have a lasting impact on my life personally and professionally.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I can say that I worked with Carol Williams. But it's evident by the amount of well wishes and kind messages from viewers that so many people feel a strong connection with my esteemed colleague. I guess I'm not the only one who is lucky.

We are all better for having Carol in our lives. Whether it's sitting a few desks away or watching her through a television. The bond we all share is truly something special.

I'm saddened that I won't get a chance to see her every day. Or enjoy a sliced honey-crisp apple in the afternoon before the news. But I'm incredibly excited to watch what this amazing woman does next in her life.

Thanks for being on my side.
