CINCINNATI — The son of a Cincinnati police officer killed in the line of duty became a firefighter Friday, the Cincinnati Police Department announced on Twitter.

A tweet showed police Chief Eliot Isaac shaking hands with Josh Kim, whose father Sonny was shot and killed in Madisonville June 19, 2015.

Sonny Kim had been responding to a report of an armed man acting erratically when the caller, 21-year-old TrePierre Hummons, shot and killed him. Investigators would conclude Hummons deliberately lured Kim to the corner of Whetsel Avenue and Roe Street with the intention of killing him.

Tributes to Kim in the years since have included rechristening a portion of Interstate 71 in his honor, and an annual memorial ride comprising hundreds of law enforcement workers and supporters.
