CINCINNATI — A Rumpke recycling truck caught fire in Hartwell Tuesday morning, causing the roadway to be blocked while crews put out the fire.

The recycling truck caught fire near the intersection of Millsdale Street and Woodbine Avenue around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

“Today’s incident is becoming far too common,” Rumpke's safety manager Bridgett Briggs wrote in a release. "Last year, we experienced 50 vehicle fires and seven facility fires because of flammable items placed in trash and recycling.”

It is not yet known what caused the fire. Biggs wrote that Rumpke continues to train their employees to watch out for things like lithium ion batteries, propane tanks or any other item which might cause a fire.

If customers have any question about what can and cannot be recycled, they can visit Rumpke's list of acceptable recycling items here.
