MIDDLETOWN -- A woman looking for a bargain this week got a nasty shock instead: She found her own possessions being resold online, and the name of the account selling the items was the name of her upstairs neighbor.
Candace Carpenter said she was searching for a deal on Offer Up, a site that allows people to buy and sell used items locally, when she found a list of items she already owned.
"They were all mine," she said. "Every single one of them. I couldn’t believe it."
Carpenter said she believes someone entered her apartment and stole the items while she was away. The name of the seller, she claimed, matches the name of the person who lives above her apartment.
Police said Friday that they were investigating to see if there was enough evidence to bring a theft charge against the neighbor.
