MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – A fight is brewing between a landlord and tenants at a Middletown apartment complex over a car the landlord said is too rusty.
Matt and Elizabeth Carner have been parking their car in a nearby Kroger parking lot out of fear that their landlord would have it towed if they parked it at their home. They were strapped for cash and received the car from a relative.
“It’s very frustrating,” Elizabeth Carner said. “I was given the car to get a job, I got a job, I need a car.”
Carner said the owners told her she had 30 days to get the car fixed or move out.
The owners of the property, Fath Properties, said the 40-year policy is to make the place look presentable to future tenants.
Carner said she thought the car looked fine.
“There’s nothing wrong with that little amount of rust,” she said. “If it was completely an eyesore, I would understand.”
