OSHP: 27-year-old killed in Brown County crash

LEWIS TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A 27-year-old was killed when his SUV drove off a road and struck a tree Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred on southbound State Route 221 near milepost 1 at about 4:07 p.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Brown County Coroner’s office pronounced the driver, Derek Lunsford, of Georgetown, Ohio, dead at the scene.

Lunsford was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. They suspected alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Higginsport Fire-EMS and Brown County Coroner’s Office were still investigating Friday night.
