FLORENCE, Ky. — One person died after their SUV crashed into two utility poles on Aero Parkway in Boone County Sunday night, police said.

According to police, 37-year-old Tara Girtley of Walton, Ky. was driving a black Saturn Vue when she drove off the side of Aero Parkway and crashed into the two poles around 8:10 p.m. Sunday night. After hitting the second pole, police said the SUV split in half; One half of the SUV continued onto Burlington Pike and hit another vehicle stopped at the light.

Officials said it's unclear why the SUV drove off the side of the road initially, but Girtley was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
