HEBRON, Ky. — A 14-year-old girl was hit by an SUV while attempting to cross Limaburg Road Thursday.

Three girls were walking from Conner Middle School and came across heavy traffic as they tried to cross Limaburg, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office. One girl was able to cross after stopping in the middle.

A driver in a Chevrolet Tahoe was headed south on Limaburg when the second girl attempted to run across the road, deputies said. The driver couldn't stop in time and hit the girl.

The girl was initially unconscious, but came to, deputies said. She suffered hip and pelvic injuries and was driven to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. More details about her condition weren't immediately available.

Speed is not believed to be a factor in the collision, deputies said.

The third girl didn't attempt to cross the street.
