FLORENCE, Ky. — Two people have died following a head-on crash in Florence Wednesday evening.

Florence Police responded to the intersection of KY-18 and Ewing Blvd. at about 6 p.m. to find two vehicles that collided in front of Waffle House.

Police said for "unknown reasons," the driver of a Lexus SUV crossed into eastbound traffic and collided with a Chevy Equinox occupied by a driver and one passenger.

All three occupants involved were transported to UC Medical Center for serious injuries.

The driver of the Lexus, 43-year-old Brian J. Smith of Union, died of his injuries. The passenger in the Chevy, 70-year-old Mary Ann Smith of Burlington, was also pronounced dead at UCMC.

Police said the driver of the Chevy is being treated at UCMC for non-life-threatening injuries.
