CINCINNATI — Mayor John Cranley said in a news briefing Thursday that the region's bike share program, Red Bike, will resume service.
Red Bike Executive Director Jason Barron spoke during Cranley's Thursday briefing to outline additional cleaning measures and other protocols the bike share system has implemented to resume service at its dozens of stations across the cities of Cincinnati and Covington, Newport, Bellevue and Dayton in Northern Kentucky.
Barron also announced Red Bike would provide free monthly memberships to frontline responders and healthcare workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and it would offer free advertising space on rental bicycles for local restaurants that have been negatively impacted by the crisis.
Cincinnati Health Director Melba Moore also provided an update on coronavirus case numbers for the city. She announced 18 new cases, bringing the city's total cases to 1,060. As of Thursday's briefing, 41 people were hospitalized, bringing the total number of hospitalizations in the city to 217. That's roughly one fifth of all coronavirus cases reported at Cincinnati health care centers.
