CINCINNATI — Police arrested a man Wednesday who they said killed his girlfriend.

Officers responded to a report of a deceased person at a Forest Avenue home in Avondale at about 5:27 a.m. Inside, they found 36-year-old Marquita Westbrook unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested the suspect, 40-year-old Rico Murph, at about 3 p.m. Wednesday. A judge set Murph's bond at $1 million Thursday for a murder charge.

The investigation is ongoing, police said. They didn't immediately release any other details and court records weren't yet available for the case.

In court for an arraignment hearing Thursday, prosecutors said witnesses described seeing Murph attack Westbook, who had been dating him. Officials said Murph put her in a chokehold and left her on the ground where she died.

An attorney for Murph said evidence will show it was not intentional.

Murph is being held in the Hamilton County Justice Center.
