HAMILTON, Ohio -- A Butler County jury found a man guilty of murder Friday for the 2017 shooting death of a man at a Middletown bar.

Malcolm Franklin is guilty of murder, three counts of felonious assault and tampering with evidence, WCPO news partner the Journal-News reported.

Franklin shot and killed 23-year-old Julian Johnson at D&J's Nite Spot on Elliott Drive in May 2017. Multiple other people were also injured in the shooting.

In closing arguments Friday, Franklin's defense attorney said "thank God" he had been armed, or he would have been dead and Johnson would have been on trial, the Journal-News reported.

However, prosecutors said Franklin acted with "absolute callousness and disregard for human life," firing 11 times even though he knew there were several people there.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 8.
