MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- One man is dead after multiple patrons were shot Tuesday at D and J's Nite Spot in Middletown.

The shooting happened at about 1:45 a.m. at the bar at 1200 Elliott Drive. Julian Marquis Johnson, 23, of Middletown, was killed. By the time police arrived, they said the suspect had already fled from the bar.

Middletown medics transported a wounded woman to Atrium Medical Center for surgery. No other information on her condition was immediately available.

Police say another person may have been hit by gunfire, but it appears he left the scene. Officers tracked a blood trail through the wood fence behind the bar and said it appears the victim got a ride from the corner of Roosevelt Boulevard and Elliott Drive.

Middletown police announced an arrest in the case later Tuesday. Malcolm Jamal Franklin, 27, was charged with murder and three counts of assault.

Officers said they are trying to find witnesses that will cooperate with the investigation since several people were at the bar at the time of the shooting.

Authorities also said they're working to determine if this incident is related to other shootings in recent days.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Det. Jon Rawlins at 513-425-7742.
