WILMINGTON, Ohio – A former police chief was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for the rape of a child, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced.

A Clinton County jury found Larry Casey, 48, guilty of the rape of a child under 13, two counts of sexual battery, one county of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and once count of failing to register as a sex offender earlier this month.

Some of the abuse occurred in 2009, when Casey was the Newtonsville police chief, DeWine said.

Casey will be eligible for parole after 25 years. He must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

“These are unspeakable crimes,” DeWine said. “With the assistance of local law enforcement, we will continue to pursue predators who abuse children.”

In 2010, Casey was also convicted of the sexual abuse of a different child. In that case, he was given probation, decertified as a police officer in Ohio and required to register as a sex offender.
