FLORENCE, Ky. – A Florence police officer and his K-9 chased a wanted man through the city sewer system Saturday before capturing him, according to police.

Acting on a tip, officers responded to the area of Rave Cinemas on Mall Road in search of 31-year-old Joshua Fugate of Hazard, Kentucky. Fugate jumped parole three years ago and has been evading capture ever since, police said.

Fugate, wanted for theft, burglary, assault and absconding parole, ran into nearby woods.

Officer B.J. Eder and K9 Karma tracked Fugate through the woods and marsh and into the sewer system.

After a three-hour manhunt, they found Fugate hiding in a storm sewer, exhausted and begging to go to jail, police said.

Fugate now faces additional drug charges plus fleeing and trespassing.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.
