SPRINGBORO, Ohio –  A Warren County drug task force raided the home of the son of Miami Valley Crime Lab director Monday morning.

Police believe Tom Betz, who lives on West Waterbury Drive in Springboro, ran a large-scale marijuana growing operation in the Dayton area.

Also Monday, the Journal-News reported that Kettering police assisted with a search at a business at 1918 Valley St. One of the businesses there is TB Livery, Inc., which belongs to Betz, according to the Better Business Bureau.

Tom Betz did not appear to be under arrest and had nothing to say before getting into his SUV and driving off Monday morning.  Contacted by phone, Ken Betz, who runs the regional crime lab in Dayton, said he was unaware of the raid on his son's home  and said “no comment.”

Agents removed computers and documents from Tom Betz’s home.

"We're kind of shocked here in the neighborhood because we haven't really had any type of problems like this before," said a neighbor, Eric Baber.

A man working in the neighborhood said agents were there about 6:30 a.m. and started clearing out by mid-morning.

Springboro police said they were there to assist the drug task force’s search and investigation.
