HAMILTON, Ohio -- The Monroe high schooler accused of killing a passenger in a crash on prom night appeared in court Monday.

The teen crashed a Tesla at 8200 Millikin Road in Liberty Township on April 27. Seventeen-year-old Kaylie Jackson died a few days after the crash. Three other passengers were released from the hospital.

The driver, whom WCPO is not identifying because she is a minor and has been charged in juvenile court, appeared for arraignment before a Butler County Juvenile Court magistrate Monday.

The magistrate set a pre-trial hearing for 9:30 a.m. Aug. 20 to allow both sides more time to gather information and prepare.

The teen stands charged with aggravated vehicular assault and two counts of assault. She was ordered by the court not to have any contact with the victims and their families, and she had to surrender her driver’s license, according to Rob Clevenger, court administrator.

If convicted, the driver could be sentenced to the Juvenile Detention Center in Columbus until her 21st birthday, according to Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser.
