CINCINNATI — For the time being, Cincinnati Public Schools plans to move forward with winter sports with a few changes for players and spectators.

“We’re going to continue to move forward with athletics at this time," said Superintendent Laura Mitchell at a CPS board meeting Monday. “We’ll add additional safety measures (for) games taking place between now and the next meeting."

Besides basketball, winter sports this year include wrestling, bowling, swimming and diving, cheerleading, dance, water polo and academic team.

Mitchell said players seated on the bench and not playing will be required to wear masks as one of those added safety measures.

All competitions will be streamed for parents and fans, but no spectators will be allowed in the stands. Only college athletic recruiters and media will be allowed to attend games and events.

Precautions announced during Monday's board meeting are effective essentially for one week.

Mitchell said she would have more information on additional measures at next week's board of education meeting.
