Thursday, Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, one of those great made-up holidays, second only to National Doughnut Day.

And with our coffee habit greater than it's ever been, many coffee shops and restaurants are rolling out promotional deals for the day.

Unfortunately, not as many will be handing out free cups off coffee this year, but you can still find some great deals percolating up if you look.

So here is who is offering what in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region, beginning with the best deal for 2016, from Krispy Kreme.

Krispy Kreme will give youa free cup of coffee and, better yet, a free glazed donut. Note that this is only at company stores, not gas stations or grocery stores. In Cincinnati, you will find one on Beechmont Avenue in Anderson Township.

Dunkin Donuts will sell you a medium cup of coffee for 66 cents, roughly half price. Why 66 cents? To honor its 66th anniversary. I hope they have a lot of pennies on hand to make change.

Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers will give you a free cup of coffee if you bring in this printable coupon.

Dairy Queen, though not exactly known for hot coffee, will have small iced coffee for $1, or an iced coffee frappe for $2. Or you could just buy a dipped cone and skip the coffee, which is probably what you really want.

Gloria Jeans Coffee will give you a free small cup of coffee all afternoon, if they are still set up in a mall near you.

Steve's BP in Miamitown Ohio and Steve's Sunoco in St Leon, Indiana has free coffee all day.

Starbucks and McDonalds are not handing out free coffee. But before you complain, they will make a charitable contribution for every cup they sell on Thursday. Starbucks is donating coffee trees, Mickey Ds is giving to Ronald McDonald House.

Besides, does Starbucks really need to give out free coffee? They will still have a long line.

If you know of anyone else handing out free coffee, email me at jmatarese@wcpo.com, so you don't waste your money.
