Shooting in Fairfield Township leaves 1 dead

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Shots rang out on Christmas Eve in Fairfield Township at approximately 1:50 p.m. in Tyler's Creek Apartments.

According to a press release from the Fairfield Township Police Department, two adult males were inside of their vehicle on Waterfowl Lane when the suspect approached them and allegedly attempted to rob them. The suspect then brandished a gun and fired several shots, striking the passenger of the vehicle before running westbound across Wildbranch Road toward Gateway Avenue.

Fairfield Township Fire Department transported the shot victim to UC West Chester, where he was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Keywontae Jaterrance Carter Smiley of Middletown.

Police are still searching for the suspect, described as a black male, late teens to early 20's, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a skinny build and short, afro hair. He was wearing black clothing and a black hoodie.
