Reds Opening Day: Celebrate 100-plus years of baseball with these parties and community events

CINCINNATI — How do you celebrate 150 years of professional baseball history?

With a long list of community events, parties and thousands of people lining the streets of Downtown cheering on the 100th annual Findlay Market Opening Day Parade.

More than 160 local organizations and floats are marching in the parade that begins at noon Thursday on Race Street near Findlay Market in Over-the-Rhine and ends on Fifth Street near the Taft Theatre, Downtown.

The Cincinnati Reds will then take on the Pittsburgh Piratest at Great American Ball Park starting at 4:10 p.m. Don't worry, if you don't have a ticket to the game, there are plenty of places to watch with friends, family and fellow baseball fans.

Opening Day Parade with 3 Points

Details: Findlay Market merchants will celebrate their 100th annual Opening Day Parade by introducing something new this year. One of Cincinnati's newest craft breweries, Pendleton-based 3 Points Urban Brewery will serve beer all day at the Findlay Market Biergarten. The biergarten is opening early to offer Reds fans a prime watching spot of the start of the parade. A number of Findlay Market merchants will also open shop as the parade kicks off to keep you fed and having fun.

Fountain Square Opening Day Celebration

Details: Celebrate the 100th annual Findlay Market Opening Day Parade with thousands of other Cincinnati Reds fans on Fountain Square. Enjoy food, live music and beer as you watch the parade make its way east on Fifth Street, Downtown. This year's Fountain Square festivities are sponsored by MadTree Brewing and Give Back Cincinnati.

Opening Day in the Cov Street Party

Details: Nash FM 94.1 and Budweiser have teamed again for an Opening Day street party outside of Smoke Justis in Covington. Play life-size beer pong, giant Jenga and cornhole, while enjoying live music from DJ Tater, the Derek Alan Band, the Tyler Moore Band and Floyd & the Walkmen throughout the day. Someone at the party will also win tickets to the Reds opening day game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Opening Day in Washington Park

Details: Join family and friends at Washington Park for a free day of fun as you watch the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade make its way down Race Street in Over-the-Rhine. Taft's Brewing Company and Mix 94.9 FM are sponsors of the community event that will include live music and games. Food and drink will also be available at the park.

Reds Community Fund Charity Block Party

Details: The block party will start at 11 a.m. Friday on Joe Nuxhall Way and Freedom Way, right outside of Great American Ball Park. The party will benefit the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy and include live music, beer trucks and tents from Anheuser-Busch, LaRosa’s pizza, the Queen City Sausage grill cart, Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine, Jim Beam and Tito's Handmade Vodka.

Braxton Opening Day Celebration

Details: Braxton will host an all-day party in its taproom to celebrate the return of baseball to the Queen City. Watch the Reds take on the Pirates on any of Braxton's televisions. The brewery is also offering a VIP experience. For $30 you'll get four drink tickets, shuttle serve to and from Great American Ball Park, and food from the Wunderbar and Peppe Cucina.

Details: Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer Tom Browning, along with his sons, will celebrate 150 years of professional baseball and his bar's first year in business on Opening Day.

Opening Day at Moerlein Lager House

Details: Moerlein Lager House is a prime location for all Opening Day festivities. This year Moerlein's doors will open at 10 a.m. Thursday with full food and drink services. A full lineup of Moerlein craft and guest beers will be on tap as well. Q102's Mollie Watson will host her show live at the Lager House, followed by Jon and Natalie until 7 p.m.

Opening Day Patio Party at The Gruff

Details: The Gruff and Rhinegeist are welcoming Reds fans to stop in the restaurant for some pre-Opening Day game libations. The Gruff, located at the foot of the Roebling Suspension Bridge, will close its side lot for a special Rhinegeist Patio Party. There will also be a speed pitch competition and Rhinegeist Cheetah and Hustle, plust $5 smoked pork, smoked metts and hamburger sliders on the patio.

Opening Day at Rhinegeist

Details: Rhinegeist will celebrate the start of Cincinnati Reds baseball season by opening early for some pregame and parade fun on Opening Day. Weather permitting, the brewery will also open its rooftop bar for the season. DJs will be spinning until game time, Sartre will serve breakfast and lunch, and staff will be slinging beer alongside specialty mimosas all day.

Opening Day at the Righteous Room

Details: The Righteous Room will celebrate the 150th anniversary of professional baseball with $1.50 red Jell-O shots during Reds Opening Day. The bar will also offer a $20 "Grand Slam Party Package," which includes Rhinegeist Hustle, Sam Adams 513, MadTree Rounding Third and a shot of Jameson. Igby's resident DJ will also spin some tunes until the Reds game against the Pirates begins at 4:10 p.m.

Findlay Market Parade Party at the Phoenix

Details: The party at the Phoenix is definitely one of the nicer places to party while you watch the 100th annual Findlay Opening Day Parade. There will be a ballpark food station, drink specials, family friendly fun and music by DJ Toad, plus additional perks depending on the seating package you purchase. Situation at the corner of Ninth and Race Streets, the Phoenix also offers one of the best views from above as the parade makes its way down Race to Fifth Street.

Arnold's Opening Day Extravaganza

Details: Arnold's Bar & Grill is continuing its tradition of opening early for the Findlay Market Parade. Cincinnati's longest-operating bar will serve breakfast from 9-11 a.m. March 28. Arnold's also will give away Reds memorabilia via randomly marked beer cups. Live entertainment by Todd Hepburn, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company and Over-the-Rhine's own Jim Tarbell will fill the bar throughout the day.

Reds Opening Day Parade Watch Party

Details: Revolution Rotisserie will offer prime parade-watching along Race Street, with the added bonus of an outdoor patio and earlier hours than usual. The bar’s owners recommend arriving early to find parking and avoid rolling road closures before the parade begins at noon. The restaurant will also raffle gifts away to the best dressed Reds fans who show up and post pictures of themselves on social media with the hashtag #RevolutionRedlegs.

Details: Taft's Ale House will open early for the Findlay Market Parade. The first 100 people to buy Taft's special Opening Day beer will receive a free T-shirt. There will also be family-friendly activities such as speed pitch, inflatable t-ball and a coloring station. And follow any of Taft's social media accounts for your chance to win front row seats to watch the parade right outside of the Ale House.

Details: Rosedale OTR's patio and bar will be rocking during Opening Day with $3.50 White Claws from noon-4 p.m.; half-price happy hour from 4-7 p.m.; and $5 Queen City brats and metts served with Husman's chips all day. The bar will also broadcast the game on its outdoor projection screen starting with the first pitch at 4:10 p.m.

Details: Keystone in Covington will help you start Reds Opening Day right with a special brunch. Starting at 10 a.m., Keystone will start serving brunch, mimosa pitchers and Bloody Marys. It's then only a short trip on the SouthBank Shuttle to make your way across the river for the game and parade.
