Welcome to Fit and Fun!

WCPO editors Max Alter and Meghan Wesley love to work out. But, like anyone else, they get bored with the traditional gym workout. So they decided to start #fitandfun, an Instagram series where they will try different workouts throughout the area and take you along for the ride. They'll tell you the basics and give each workout a fun rating out of 10 every two weeks on Instagram. Follow along at @9OnYourSide and with the hashtag #fitandfun. Last time, we tried ballet boot camp. Read about it here.

This week: Elmntl Fitness at Woodland Mound Park

Elmntl Fitness is a functional fitness class set within outdoor elements at Woodland Mounds Park. Owner and trainer Kevin Wimmer changes up the workouts for every class and they are catered to whomever has signed up for that class.

See how much fun I'm having?

We’re talking: Pull-ups on monkey bars, deadlifting rocks, lunging with logs — you get the idea. Wimmer takes advantage of whatever natural elements are available to create a really challenging — and fun! — workout.

When can I try?

Wimmer holds classes Monday-Saturday, mostly in the early morning or evening. Click here to check out the schedule and to sign up for a class.

What's the cost?

First-timers get to try a class for $5. After that, individual classes are $20; a 10-pack of classes is $150 and an unlimited pass is $120 a month.

Was it fun?

SO much fun. Max had to skip this one and he was very jealous he didn’t get to try when I got back and told him about it. It was so much fun to work out in the elements, doing things like deadlifts in such a different way. It was a great time and let me tell you: It was a GREAT workout. Three days later, I am really sore. Be prepared to wear yourself out. I gave it a 10/10 on the fun scale.

Give us ideas!

Know of any workouts we should try? Email Meghan at meghan.wesley@wcpo.com. Or use the hashtag #fitandfun and tag @9onyourside if you try one!
