CINCINNATI --  The sweet, summery breeze rolling through our area Tuesday wasn’t just a pleasant reprieve from months of cold weather -- it was a record-setter, placing Feb. 20, 2018, as the hottest National Weather Service-recorded February day in Ohio history.

According to the NWS in Wilmington, Tuesday’s 79-degree highs topped the previous record-holder, Feb. 24, 2017, by exactly one degree Fahrenheit.

Claiming the bronze in the NWS' February records is Feb. 10, 1932, when presumably a great number of petticoats and other old-timey garments were ruffled by a 76-degree day.

And, in case you weren’t in the mood to appreciate the heat, consider this: You could have been alive in 1899, when the National Weather Service recorded an all-time monthly low of -17 degrees on Feb. 9.
