In the times we’re living in, something as simple as going to the grocery store can be a pretty stressful experience. For those who can’t do their own shopping because they’re homebound or are in the high-risk category for COVID-19, it’s even more difficult.

To help, Walmart has quietly been rolling out a new delivery service to 100 stores since mid-April and, now, they’re expanding to around 1,000 locations, with nearly 2,000 offering the service within the next few weeks.

The retailer’s Express Delivery service will deliver items from across the store to your door in less than two hours. Categories include food and general merchandise, including groceries, everyday essentials and even toys and electronics.

Here’s how it works: Simply go to Walmart’s website or use the Walmart app to search your zip code and see if Express Delivery is offered at your local store. If it is, search for the items you need, add them to your cart and then select “Express Delivery” at checkout.

You can pay for your order online or via the app. A personal shopper will put your order together and a delivery driver will pick it up and deliver it to your house. No money is exchanged at the door, so the process is contactless and safe.

The service costs $10 on top of the existing delivery charge. If you’re a Walmart Delivery Unlimited customer, you’ll just pay a $10 fee per Express Delivery order. Walmart says there’s no markup on the items themselves.

This is not the only new initiative Walmart has launched during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, they introduced a new “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” program in which Nextdoor members in cities across the country could request assistance or offer to help someone in their community by shopping for essential items at the store.

At a time when it’s tough to get delivery slots with many services, we’re looking forward to trying out this one.
